In the many years that I have taught this course, here is a simple summary of what I have seen:

Student 1 (Akamai): Successful in this class

Class Attendance – solid

Reads assignment before class session – Yes

Does exercises to discuss in class – Yes

Asks questions, sees instructor, tutors if needed – Yes

Student 2: Most often not successful in this class

Class Attendance – sporadic

Reads assignment before class session – Seldom or never; or tries to skim reading just before class

Note: You cannot read a logic or math book by jumping around and skimming.  You need to read slowly, step by step, and think about what you are reading.

Does assigned exercises to discuss in class – No

Asks questions, sees instructor, tutors if needed – No or too late in the semester
