GOAL:           The goal of this course if for you to improve your writing skills,
including the ability to adequately and logically develop a written
discussion of a topic addressed to an adult audience.

A PAPER REPLETE WITH GAPS AND ERRORS IS LIKE A
WRINKLED DRESS OR SHIRT.  You would not appear in public
wearing a wrinkled garment.  Similarly, you would not want to
submit a "wrinkled" report to your teachers in other classes or to
                       your employer.

The purpose of the revisions is to iron out all the wrinkles (errors
in grammar and mechanics and inadequate support) from your
writing and to strengthen the development of your ideas.

GIVENS:        To accomplish the goal of improving your writing, do the
                       following:

                       (1) THOUGHTFULLY complete all the writing assignments, .
including the revisions. That means you must learn something from
each step.  That means doing the brain-storming, rough drafts,
                       revisions, editing, and rewrites.

                       (2) KEEP INFORMED.  Read newspapers, magazines, books,
textbooks; surf critically through the internet, and keep abreast of
current developments in  various fields.  Good writing reflects
                       good reading.

                       (3) Maintain a good attendance record, including promptness to class
so that you don't miss any learning activity.  Also review all your paragraph
assignments and go over your mistakes with the tutor or your teacher.

GRADES:       The quality of all your work and exams will determine your letter
                       grade.

If your assignment and attendance record is good but your final
exam does not meet the Language Arts Department standards, you
will get an N grad which will not jeopardize your GPA (grade
                       point average).

The F goes to the student who has a poor assignment completion
                       and attendance record.

The W grades is given only if the student withdraws from he
course by the deadline date of Friday, October 16.

NOTE:  ALL WRITING MUST BE AUTHENTIC; it must be in your own words.  Copying
the text from other sources without proper documentation or having someone else do
your writing is considered PLAGIARISM which can lead to dismissal from school.
