| Week 2 | Part I (3-64), readings, discussion, in-class Writing |
| Week 3 | Part II (Chapters 4 -8), prewriting, thesis, revising, editing, in-class writing, discussion |
| Week 4 | Chapter 9, readings, discussion, in-class rough draft, peer revision/editing |
| Week 5 | Narrative essay due, Chapter 10, readings, discussion, rough draft, peer revision/editing |
| Week 6 | Descriptive essay due, Chapter 11, readings, discussion, rough draft |
| Week 7 | Conferences |
| Week 8 | Midterm, final draft of illustration essay due |
| Week 9 | Chapter 13, readings, discussion, rough draft |
| Week 10 | Chapter 16, readings, discussion, final draft of comparison-contrast essay due |
| Week 11 | Chapters 17, 18, discussion, readings; cause and effect essay due |
| Week 12 | Library, Chapter 21, 22, readings, discuss |
| Weeks 13-15 | Chapters 19, 20, research format instructions, conferences, literary analysis and research paper due |

| Note #1: | Specific instructions for the format of essays will be given to you in writing during the second week of class. |
| Note #2: | Specific instructions for the research paper will be given to you in writing between the 10th and 12th weeks of the course. |
| Note #3: | Specific reading and other homework assignments will be given to
you at least a week prior to the assignment in class.

| Note #4: | Sign-up times/dates for conferences will be available one week before they are scheduled.

| Note #5: | This course guide and syllabus is subject to change at the
discretion of the instructor; therefore, very good attendance,
communication with your instructor, and contact with several
classmates are absolutely essential.

put on a pulse mode when you enter my classroom. I will not
